Khoj conducts policy and action research in the areas of gender, education and agriculture. Some recent researches are

  • Analysis of Punjab Education Budget 2012-13
  • Women's Wisdom: Documenting Women's Knowledge in Ecological Agriculture in Pakistan

    Women's Wisdom is the documentation of women's knowledge, roles, skills and community practices in the villages of Thathi Bhanguaan, Babuwala and Kot Mughal in Punjab, Pakistan. Women in these communities share their wisdom as food growers for the family, and as care givers and healers. The different traditional home remedies as practiced in the areas of health, livestock keeping and crop farming are also included in this book.
  • Reviewed National Curriculum on Early Childhood Education 2007 with policy recommendations, commissioned by Plan International, Islamabad, 2011.
  • Madrasa Education: Issues, Challenges and Way Forward in respect of Human Development, in partnership with ActionAid Pakistan
  • Understanding the Role of School Councils: situation analysis of school councils in 5 districts of Punjab, in partnership with ActionAid Pakistan.
  • Gender Justice Inspired by the Teachings of Islam, commissioned by BARGAD, Gujranwala, funded by Mama Cash, Netherlands.
  • A study on Skills and Perception Gap in Women's Employment, commissioned by BARGAD, Gujranwala, funded by CIDA-PAGE.

Khoj policy advocacy work is based on issues emerging from its work with the communities and action and policy research. The issues addressed have been related to formal, non formal and adult education and also on issues relating to gender equity, safe food, hazards of chemical pesticides and food security.

Quality education, public-private partnership, access to school, school infrastructure, relevance of curriculum, alternative methodologies of learning and teaching and quality of teachers remained key issues for advocacy. The work was done in collaboration with Save the Children-UK and CIDA-PAGE.

Khoj has also participated in international advocacy campaigns like on banning pesticides focusing on endosulfan and paraquat, Say No to Pesticides Week and Save our Rice. The work was done in collaboration with Pesticide Action Network Asia & Pacific.
